Zelenskyy’s Wardrobe Makes Headlines Again – and a Comeback
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s clothing attracted attention once again during his visit to the White House for crucial peace negotiations with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday. Recognized for his distinctive wartime military-style attire, Zelenskyy showcased a slightly revised appearance — a black blazer combined with a military-inspired shirt and canvas trousers, aimed at achieving a balance between civilian and military symbolism.
Trump greeted Zelenskyy with a playful remark: “He is all dressed up today,” alluding to the Ukrainian leader’s usual preference for avoiding formal attire as a gesture of solidarity with his war-affected nation. The ensemble, designed by Ukrainian designer Viktor Anisimov, represented a subtle change in tone. Anisimov confirmed that conversations regarding an update to Zelenskyy’s wardrobe had commenced in January, highlighting the president’s intention to maintain authenticity while refining his image.
“It’s not about the suit – it’s about what happens to Ukraine,” Anisimov stated to Womenswear Daily, emphasizing that clothing choices were secondary to the country’s destiny.
Nevertheless, the wardrobe alteration did not go unnoticed — particularly by conservative journalist Brian Glenn, who had previously criticized Zelenskyy in February for not donning a suit during his visit to Washington. This time, Glenn praised the outfit, leading to a quick-witted retort from Zelenskyy: “I remember. But you are in the same suit. I’m changed and you’re not.”
The comment elicited laughter in the press room. Trump joined in the lighthearted banter, identifying Glenn as the same reporter who had earlier challenged Zelenskyy. Glenn extended an apology, and the press conference proceeded on a more jovial note.
In the end, the wardrobe discussion offered a human moment amidst serious global dialogues — and underscored Zelenskyy’s capacity to defuse criticism with humor and determination.
